Problem solving and showing that you’re a problem solver are not necessarily the same skills. Here’re 3 ways to demonstrate in presentations:
- Focus on the solution. It’s human nature to “complain” when problems are overwhelming or when feeling underappreciated. It’s OK to discuss the challenges, but problem solvers also pair them with resolutions and outlook.
- Describe your methods. Half of the work is figuring out where to start & from whom to ask for help. They demonstrate your resourcefulness.
- Support your solution with evidence. Present data, research, and logic models to explain how you reached decision on what’s best and the tradeoffs. If you’re trying to persuade stakeholders to back your proposal, bring in real-life examples they can emphasize + sympathize with so everyone feels that they are also problem solvers!
