Preparation always takes more time than the actual meeting or presentation. Here’re 3 balancing strategies when you feel that you are making personal sacrifice to be prepared:
- Examine your motive. We all have to make personal sacrifices at times to feel 100% prepared. Think of the deeper purpose for you to present: get your idea out there, change perceptions, etc. Clarifying your why helps you prioritize your time/energy and not blinded by profit or fame.
- Sync your calendars. Scheduling back to back thinking you can “hack it” or “I’ve done it before” is OK, just make sure you are clear on ALL the commitments in your life. Part of the preparation is knowing your schedule.
- You’re not fooling anyone! It’s tempting to demand a higher fee or dictate superior terms to make personal sacrifice “worthwhile”. To protect your reputation, just say no – with grace – and usher in future opportunities.
