How to create a more inclusive presentation as a project manager?

From a project manager and leader perspective, an inclusive presentation must go beyond saying appropriate words and providing accommodations. Try 3 tips:

  1. There’s such a thing as too much information. When showing deadlines, keep it simple with a calendar/table rather than a Gannt Chart because the audience does not necessarily have project manager training. Also define technical terms such as “critical path” so your audience can follow you and feel that the presentation is inclusive.
  2. For Q&A, repeat the question for clarity. If online with written questions, read them aloud. This really helps when not everyone is collocated.
  3. Time expands to fill the available time, so cut to the chase! Stick to the agenda’s assigned time. An inclusive and transparent presentation does not mean a lengthy presentation!
