How to add self-deprecating humor to your presentation?

It’s only funny when the joke is on you, the speaker. Here’re 3 ways to add self-deprecating humor in your presentation without crossing the line:

  1. You must be comfortable making fun of yourself. It 100% shows and the audience will turn on you if you lack disarming sincerity at being self-deprecating.
  2. Don’t joke about your core skill or ethics – those are sacred.
  3. Embellish!!! A great joke is usually built on something ordinary and then you exaggerate one or more details to make it extra-ordinary. For example, you can repeat a self-deprecating joke that has worked before but tweak + exaggerate a detail to make it relevant to the current audience and reach optimal humor effect.
