You’ve won half of the battle by simply recognizing that you’re struggling to learn the new skill. Break through with 3 self-assessments:
- Learning behavior. Think back on your past learnings to identify the optimal setting: self-paced MOOCs, structured classroom setting, or “on the job”? It’s possible you need to change the setting.
- Readiness. Could it be possible that you don’t have the prerequisite skills? For example, some people believe they must learn a certain software to be better at programming, but it’s not necessarily the software tool but a clear understanding of data structure and problem-solving skills that must be learned first.
- Motivation. Write down WHY you’re learning this new skill. Purpose is the best way to break through procrastination if that’s what’s holding you back!
