How to use gestures to improve your presentation?

Gestures are a form of nonverbal body language communication that can significantly enhance your verbal communication. Here’re 3 considerations:

  1. Gesticulation before articulation. In human communication, we expect to see a speaker’s body language (movement) right before the sound. Don’t buy it? Observe another speaker or record yourself and watch.
  2. Be intentional. Your gestures should enhance your message. For example, if you want to express fervent opposition to an issue, cross your forearms to make a big X to deliver a memorable and stimulating message.
  3. When online, make big gestures. In the digital age, your audience’s attention is being competed for among emails, text messages, and mobile notifications. So, go big or they go home!
