How to align project design with business strategy?

A successful project executes the work it was created to do, but business strategy sustains the success long-term. Reflect on 3 questions for project design:

  1. Do you understand the business strategy? Sometimes, futuristic strategy can feel “disconnected” from day to day work, especially if you’re constantly putting out fires.
  2. Are you sold on it? Where you stand affects your team members’ buy-in to contribute to the larger organization’s welfare.
  3. Who will this project affect/need/report to?  Those are the stakeholders who shall be responsible, accountable, consulted, informed (RACI) and formal or informal project sponsors. Their requirements and priorities could be at odds with the business strategy, so communicate, collaborate, and consider their wants + concerns in your project design!
