You don’t have to be a data scientist to acquire data literacy specific to your job! Enable your team 3 ways:
- Fancy ≠ most useful. Select analytics tools the team will most likely USE. (Think of how many times employees abandon a robust tool in favor of simple spreadsheets/tables because they’re easier to use/learn).
- Provide custom training so the use cases are directly relevant to the team’s data literacy needs. The first step is to identify what the needs are: to interpret, collect, buy, sell, analyze, present, or some or all of them? Alternatively, there’re SO MANY online courses to choose from to fill the gap between the team’s current data skills vs. where they should be for their job.
- Validate, not intimidate! Regularly communicate business needs and value using data STORIES + ethical implications. Be a data literacy role model!
