Accept failure but not defeat! Live to fight another day with 3 strategic planning pivots:
- Strategic planning focuses on long-term goals and direction. You might need to let go of some goals right now to prioritize and protect the core interests.
- Examine business culture. We’ve all been in situations where we labored a strategy but only to find later that it only partially (or never) launched by higher-ups, or that something newer, shinier was now taking place. Identifying and acknowledging prior failures can help reposition current strategy (“pivot”) and improve stakeholder messaging before its execution.
- Correlation doesn’t imply causation! Evaluation measures can affect strategic planning success /fail determination, for instance, lower revenue may not be a result of lower bids, could high cost be the culprit?
