How to give a real and restorative apology?

Here’re 3 steps to apologize and not to make the relationship worse:

  1. Examine your motive. If you don’t feel that what you did was wrong or that you hurt the other person, you’re not ready to apologize.
  2. “I’m sorry” should be a complete sentence. Adding “but”, “if”, or a monologue veer into appearing: ingenuine, transactional, or even manipulative.
