Time zone changes, new food, and away from family can take a toll on your body and spirit. Consider 3 work-life balance strategies when traveling for work:
- When in [fill in the location], do as the locals do. Make your trip an immersive experience and gain a better understanding of the local market. Once I was traveling for work internationally and around 10 A.M. local time everyone at the meeting got up to do jumping jacks – of course I joined in! Try to stay open-minded with the food, different way of thinking, and customs.
- Don’t try to be superhuman. I used to select the shortest possible itinerary so I can be home sooner for my children but when I got home I was exhausted and still “unavailable.”
- Stay active while traveling. Exercise helps increase the body’s natural painkiller called endorphin to help relieve stress while traveling for work!
