You’re the underdog in the power relationship with your boss. Deliberate 3 questions to not end up a casualty when addressing your boss taking credit for your work:
- The power imbalance reality. Would you rather focus your energy fighting for each credit you deserve, or sharing them with your boss to accumulate a “line of credit” and build up your reputation as the go to person?
- Industry norm and/or unwritten culture. If employees are expected to “wait your turn”: Are you willing to conform, or pioneer to transform the system despite the power relationship?
- Confidence, not bitterness. Proving work product infringement is hard by legal standard. It’s even harder to prove workplace plagiarism because it’s typically less than blatant.
