The advantage of handouts is to leave a tactile impression and is portable, and they should not be a printout of your slides. Make them into engaging visual aids 3 ways for your conference presentations:
- Know your purpose. A handout is purely a visual aid to enhance one specific point in your speech – you don’t want people reading while you’re speaking. If you’re giving a training, they serve as a visual AND notetaking aid.
- Limit your handouts to the essential points because conference goers prefer a digital download these days – most airlines charge for luggage now. Make sure you have your contact information on the handouts so people can get in touch with you.
- Don’t pass them out while you’re talking! People tend to get distracted, or they start reading rather than listening. And people read ahead – guaranteed!
Shine at your conference presentations!
