How to demonstrate resilience to potential employers or collaborators?

Resilience is less about how tough you are but how you bounce back from setbacks. Demonstrate your resilience 3 ways:

  1. Use everyday examples. While “rags to riches” stories move anyone, it’s the everyday examples that a potential employer can directly relate to. Just make sure to frame the example so it’s relevant to what you’re after.
  2. Think: Is this story ready to be told? For example, if you still get very emotional, maybe it’s not time. Vulnerability is a strength yet if you’re clearly still in the middle of dealing with whatever it was, it could be hard for people to clearly see your capacity for resilience because it’s hard to see it demonstrated when you still get very emotional.
  3. Be enthusiastic! While you’ve not forgotten past difficulties, you’ve managed to rise above them, and are READY to solve the employer’s current, tough problems!
