Project progress updates usually involve a review of work completion against the budget, schedule and resources. Minimize confusion with 3 strategies:
- If your progress deviates from what was planned in the positive direction, that’s not necessarily good news – it means your forecasts were off. Examine the root cause, eg. market change, resource reallocation, and have a reforecast strategy ready.
- Executives don’t have the time (or your specialized knowledge) to “get down in the weeds”. So, start with big picture headlines before going into the details.
- Create a template and reuse for each progress update. The consistency will make your life easier!
